On November 7, 2006, the Council of American Ambassadors and the Americas Society/Council of the Americas hosted an American Ambassadors Forum in New York City. The theme of the forum was "Political and Economic Trends in Latin America and the Implications for the United States."
Christopher Sabatini, Senior Director of Policy at the Council of the Americas, served as Moderator of a discussion between Jorge Pinto, former Deputy Chief of Mission to the Embassy of Mexico and Former Executive Director of the World Bank, and Thomas J. Trebat, Executive Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at Columbia University.
The panel discussion was followed by a keynote speech and discussion by Charles S. Shapiro, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the former United States Ambassador to Venezuela.
