Joseph B. Gildenhorn

Joseph B. Gildenhorn was the US Ambassador to Switzerland from 1989-1993.

He is a partner in the law firm of Brown, Gildenhorn and Jacobs, Washington, DC, and Founder, Officer and Director of The JBG Companies, a real estate development and management firm.

He is presently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He is a Trustee and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation; a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for Strategic and International Studies; a member of the boards of the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University and United Nations Watch, Geneva. In the past, he was an attorney with the Office of the General Counsel, Securities and Exchange Commission in 1958 and served with the Army from 1954-1956.

Ambassador Gildenhorn is a member of the bar of the District of Columbia, Maryland and the Supreme Court of the United States. He was an adjunct professor at The George Washington University School of Business. He received his law degree from Yale Law School in 1954. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Yale Law Journal and Order of the Coif.
