Jason M. Chung

Jason Myung-Ik Chung served as the U.S. Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with the Rank of Ambassador where he represented the United States on the Board of Directors of ADB from August 2020 to January 2021. Ambassador Chung was nominated by the President of the United States on November 21, 2019 and confirmed by the United States Senate on August 6, 2020. Prior to his appointment as United States Director, he served as U.S. Alternate Director to ADB from August 2018 until his confirmation. He currently serves as a non-resident senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC.

For his dedicated service at ADB, Ambassador Chung was a recipient of the U.S. Treasury Department's Distinguished Service Award. Ambassador Chung's tenure at ADB was marked by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and he was at the forefront of shaping ADB's $13.5 billion economic response packages to the pandemic, as well as the $9 billion vaccine financing facility for nations in Asia and the Pacific.

From January 2017 to July 2018, Ambassador Chung served in the U.S. Department of the Treasury as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs and as an International Affairs Advisor where he worked on issues related to international economics, development finance, trade and the bilateral relationship between the U.S. Treasury and ministries of finance, central banks, regulators and aid agencies of other nations.

His prior political experience includes working at the Republican National Committee, and on presidential, federal and state-level elections. His prior government service includes working in federal and state government and in the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressman Thomas M. Davis, III of Virginia and Congressman Christopher Shays of Connecticut. Ambassador Chung is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. A native of New York, he is married and has two children. He and his family reside in Fairfax County, Virginia.
