Political Unrest and Institutional Crisis in Latin America
Political Unrest and Institutional Crisis in Latin America: What Can We Expect in 2020?
In 2019, political unrest erupted unexpectedly in Chile, Colombia and Ecuador. The president of Bolivia resigned after a disrupted election, the Peronists returned to power in Argentina and the Maduro regime clung to control in Venezuela. What can we expect in the Southern Hemisphere in 2020 and what are the implications of the COVID-19 outbreak in the region? To answer these questions, the Council of American Ambassadors hosted Dr. Arturo Valenzuela, former Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, for a virtual roundtable discussion.
This event was recorded for public viewing. The recording can be accessed on the Council's American Ambassadors Live! website: https://www.americanambassadorslive.org/post/political-unrest-and-institutional-crisis-in-latin-america-what-can-we-expect-in-2020
