Application Guidelines

The Council of American Ambassadors International Affairs Fellowship Program is highly competitive. Interested applicants are encouraged to review all eligibility, program and application requirements prior to submitting their CAA Annenberg Summer Fellowship Program Application.

Required Application Materials:

To apply, interested applicants must:

A) Submit one (1) PDF document containing items 1 - 3 of the following materials:

  1. Cover sheet listing your:
    1. Name
    2. Preferred email address
    3. Phone number
    4. Permanent address
    5. Birth place
    6. University
    7. Major and any accompanying concentrations or minors
    8. Year in school and graduation date
    9. Bureau at Department of State (if assigned)
    10. Security Clearance status from Department of State
  2. A personal essay (~500 words) outlining motivation, preparation and aspirations for a career in foreign and national security affairs;
  3. A topical essay (~750 words) succinctly positing and analyzing what the applicant sees as the most challenging foreign affairs/national security problem confronting the United States. The essay must offer concise recommendations to address the problem.
  4. Two letters of recommendation from faculty members, former supervisors, or others with first-hand knowledge of the applicant’s performance and suitability.
  5. Request that an official university transcript be emailed to Ms. Grayce McAllister

Deadline: 12:00 am/midnight EST, Sunday, March 31, 2024
Your one (1) PDF application document containing items 1-3 must be received on or before 12:00 am/midnight EST (Sunday, March 31, 2024) and should be sent to Grayce McAllister (grayce@americanambassadors.org) and cc Joyce Chandran (joyce@americanambassadors.org).

B) Request two (2) letters of recommendation be emailed to:

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be rising juniors and rising seniors- if in the fall of 2024 you will be entering your junior or senior year, you are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must receive security clearance from U.S. Department of State
  • Applicants must attend Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm Academic Class
  • Applicants must attend all CAA Mentorship events
  • Applicants must start Internship on start date: May 20, 202
