J. Paul Johnson, Executive Director
J. Paul Johnson is a seasoned professional with 30 years of global and Washington experience spanning communications, public affairs, and foreign policy issues. Over the past 10 years, Paul served as the U.S. Institute of Peace's (USIP) senior press officer. During his tenure, he generated thousands of media engagements for USIP's cadre of former U.S. ambassadors and diplomats in addition to regional experts. His media responsibilities extended to public events, often in partnership with the Department of State, featuring global leaders.
Paul's dedication to membership, client, and educational institutions include his role as a state legislative analyst at the National Restaurant Association, associate director of media relations at the White House Writers Group, and American University's public relations manager for its School of International Service and School of Public Affairs.
Upon completion of his Juris Doctor and admission to the New York Bar, Paul worked in Buenos Aires for Fundacion Centro de Estudios Americanos – an Argentine NGO aligned closely with U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires to provide reliable information to civil society about the United States through publications, seminars, and delegation visits to Washington. While in Argentina, he also taught U.S. political systems and introduction to political science.
Paul is also a long-time member of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York.
He resides in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife Andrea and daughter Nora.
