The Council of American Ambassadors is the association of non-career United States ambassadors. A nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, the Council comprises over 200 members whose ambassadorial service collectively extends over five decades and eleven U.S. Presidents. Members are invited to join the Council after they have served as an Ambassador for the United States. Each member may register for a contribution of $1,000. Appointment to the Council's Board of Directors requires a $2,000 contribution and Plenipotentiary members, who are recognized on the Council's Donor Honor Roll, contribute $5,000.
