On September 17, the Council of American Ambassadors will host an Ambassadors Roundtable luncheon with Ambassador Thomas A. Shannon, Jr., Counselor of the Department of State.

Ambassador Shannon will address a spectrum of foreign policy challenges facing the United States.

A Career Ambassador in the Senior Foreign Service, Thomas Shannon served as Senior Advisor to Secretary of State John Kerry, Ambassador to Brazil (2010 to 2013), and  Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs (2005 to 2009).

During his 30 year career, he also served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the National Security Council, as well as Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the OAS.
